The music represents only a fraction of the traditional and contemporary music of the Maori, and includes many of the more popular songs that I have had the good fortune to produce during nearly forty years in the music business.

Included are the most popular songs that one would expect to find in such a collection, but also included are a number of original compositions that have been written in very recent times ? indeed a number of compositions by probably one of the most prolific song writers of the current day Morvin Simon are featured.

A number of earlier compositions that would have been heard very early in the 20th Century are also included.

There will be instances when the listener may perhaps question if the correct words have been shown, for the fact is of course, that these can vary from area to area, but as far as is possible, the words are as sung on the more recent recordings of artists like Maisey Rika, The Willie Matthews Quartet and the world famous St Jospeh?s Maori Girls? College.

I believe that this is probably the most comprehensive collection of Maori Music to date, and have already started compiling volume two. In the meantime ? enjoy the music.

It is advisable to purchase the "A Century of Maori Song" book as this has the lyrics of the various waiata from the CD.
